Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University

It is the ambition of the department to be recognized internationally as a leader in computer science - a department with coherent activities within research, education, development and industry co-operation.

In order to reach this goal, we regularly conduct international research evaluations and participate in benchmarking of our educational programmes (including examination of concerns such as completion and drop out rates).

In the most recent research evaluation, covering the period 2001-2005, the independent international evaluation committee concluded that:
“…the quality of research in the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University is universally high and, in some cases, internationally leading.”
And ”The Department clearly operates at a standard which is comparable with leading research departments in computer science elsewhere in the world.”
 
In the educational field, our programmes are based on the hallmarks of Aalborg University: the problem-oriented learning paradigm, and project-organized group work. The excellence of these programmes is recognized in the international benchmarking of Danish computer science in 2006:
”AAU has developed programmes with a strong professional orientation … that… make an important contribution to Danish computer science.”
The resulting educational programmes are characterized by:
”… low dropout rates and short graduation times, something that could inspire other departments.”

Collaboration with the ICT-industry and the surrounding community is an important aspect at the Department and is  organized through three organizations – Cassiopeia, DAISY and CISS.
