Abstract:
Probabilistic graphical models such as Bayesian networks and influence diagrams are increasingly popular knowledge representations for decision support under uncertainty. Their applications have grown in size and number ever since belief update became feasible for reasonably sized models in the eighties. Now Bayesian networks and influence diagrams are being applied in a wide range of domains to support both simple and complex decisions.

The presentation starts with a short introduction to Bayesian networks and influence diagrams with a focus on knowledge representation and usage. Next I present examples of decision support applications based on Bayesian networks and influence diagrams using as examples the domains of food safety and finance. The examples include both existing applications in operation and potential new applications.
