INT: Introduction to Internet Technologies
Short Description
This
course aims to give students a basic
understanding of the Web's architecture, the basic standards and protocols of the internet, and the Web
programming. The topics covered by this course include HTML and XML, the Query languages for XML, the transformation between different
XML-based formats, XML programming, creating dynamic Web
applications through both client-side and the server-side programming, and basic techniques of search engines services.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Java or C++ programming.
Goals and Content
At the end of the course the students are expected to:
- understand the format on HTML webpages and XML
- understand DTD and XML scheme
- understand XPath, and XQuery
- understand XSLT
- understand publishing XML views of relational database
- be familar with some XML tools for XML programming, e.g. JDOM, JAXB
- be familar with creating dynamic Web
applications through both client-side and the server-side programming
- understand the basic techniques of search engines.
