Hi there! I am a full profe
My research generally
concerns aspects of busine
Current and recent
projects: I am
co-director of the newly established Center for Data-Intensive Systems (daisy). In the recently started Daisy Innovation project, we collaborate with
local industry about data-intensive systems. In the Intelligent Sound project, we build
a framework for the next generation of intelligent sound services. In the LandIT
project, we develop technologies for real-time data integration for farming
devices. In the Spatio-Temporal Data Mining for Location-Based Services
project, we develop novel methods for discovering patterns in spatio-temporal data. In the AOBI
project, we investigate the use of agile methods and open source tools for
busine
Past projects: In the Data Management Support for Location-Based Services (LBS) project, we studied the data management foundations for ubiquitous computing, with a focus on the modeling and management of the geo-referenced aspects of reality. In the ContextIT project, we studied context-based information systems. In the Rethinking Business Intelligence for the Age of Pervasive Computing project, we developed technologies for performing real-time XML data integration and querying data streams. In the European Internet Accessibility Observatory (EIAO) project, we built an internet-scale system for monitoring and analyzing the accessibility of web pages.

Recent courses: Data Warehousing
and Machine Learning (
Ph.D. students: Igor Timko (Ph.D. 2005, now at Free University of Bozen-Bolzano), Xuepeng Yin (Ph.D. 2007, now at Accobat), Christian Thomsen (Ph.D. 2008, now post doc at daisy), Gyozo Gidofalvi (Ph.D. 2008, now post doc at UU), Francois Deliege (Ph.D. 2009), Morten Middelfart (ongoing), Nadeem Iftikhar (ongoing), Xiufeng Liu (ongoing)
I serve on the Editorial
Boards of the International
Journal of Data Warehousing and Mining and Journal
of Computing Science and Engineering. In 2007, I served as PC Chair for DOLAP. In 2009, I
serve as General Schair for SSTD, PC Chair for DaWaK and Regional Chair (
PC memberships: 2009: ICDE, SIGMOD (demo PC), DOLAP 2008: BIRTE, DaWaK, DEXA, DOLAP, ECDM, JODS (special issue on semantic data warehouses), KES, MMD, WebS, XANTEC 2007: ICDE, ICISTM, DEXA, DaWaK, WebS; 2006: ADBIS, BIRTE, DaWaK, DOLAP, ECDM, ICSNW, QLQP, WebS; 2005: ADBIS, COMAD, DaWaK, DBA, ODBASE, ICDCIT, VLDB, WebS; 2004: ADBIS, ADVIS, DaWaK, DBA, DIWeb, SSDBM; 2003: DaWaK, ISE; 2002: DMDW, EDBT.
On top of this, I have performed external reviewing for more than 30 journals and conferences, including ACM TODS, VLDBJ, DKE, VLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, ER and SSDBM.
I founded and continue to
run the Business Intelligence
