New PhD positions: Combine sunshine and data studies at world-leading institutions

The Data Engineering for Data Science programme is looking to appoint new PhD students. Candidates with degrees from a number of countries, including Denmark, can apply for positions combining a two-year stay in Greece, Spain or Belgium with a one year stay at Aalborg University.

Data is a key asset in modern society, and the European Joint Doctorate in Data Engineering for Data Science (DEDS) is designed to develop education, research, and innovation at the intersection of Data Engineering and Data Science.

The DEDS programme aims at carrying out foundational research within the Big Data value chain to develop new technologies that improve data management efficiency and Data Science.

The 3-year doctoral programme aimed at early-stage researchers (ESR) is based on a co-tutelle model and organised by the Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University (Denmark) together with the Athena Research and Innovation Centre (Greece), Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain).

As part of the programme, each ESR will work on obtaining a joint doctorate degree from two partner universities (home and host) and is therefore enrolled in the PhD programmes at both universities for the entire period of 3 years. An ESR spends two years at the home university and one year at the host university.

The following ESR positions are available with either the Athena Research and Innovation Centre (Greece), Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) or Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain) as home universities (2 years) and AAU as the host university (1 year):

AAU AS HOST UNIVERSITY

  • ESR 1.2 Traceability in big data processing
  • ESR 2.4 Analytic operators for trajectories
  • ESR 3.3 Unified information extraction for data preparation
  • ESR 4.1 Interactive exploration & analytics on complex big data

Please note: The Candidate must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the Home Institution (Greece, Belgium or Spain) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date.

An ESR works on an individual research project with a supervisory team consisting of at least two academic supervisors from home and host universities, complemented by one secondment supervisor from a partner organisation.

DEDS operates under the Horizon 2020 - Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2020) framework.

Application deadline: February 7, 2021, midnight AoE (Anywhere on Earth)
